Education Matters Yearbook 2011-12
It is with great pleasure that we announce a new collaboration between Education Matters and NUI Galway and introduce the new editor of Education Matters Yearbook, Dr Tony Hall.
Education Matters is particularly happy to have entered into an agreement with such a well-established and prestigious university and to have on board as editor an academic who has a deep interest in the educational sciences and new media in education.
The world of Irish education is changing rapidly at all levels. The birth rate grows and the knowledge based economy develops and places greater demands on education systems. It is hard to keep abreast of these critically important changes in our society.
Education Matters Yearbook aims to address this growing need for more readily accessible information about all that happens in the field of education. It seeks to provide a comprehensive compendium of all significant events, trends and debates in Irish education from pre-school to 4th level.
This information is accompanied by review articles, commentary and analysis by leading educators.
There is no comparable treasury of educational information available in Ireland. This is a unique reference work which makes available the full range of educational development in any given year. It will be an invaluable resource for all who have a professional or personal interest in education.
We need your support to get this important publication firmly established on a permanent footing.

Education Matters
As many of you will know, Education Matters has made a longtime contribution to education in Ireland. First established in 1988 as a newsprint publication, it was carried for several years by national newspapers. Its most regular contributors included well respected personalities such as Gemma Hussey, the late Anthony Clare, Louis O’Flaherty, Cynthia Ní Mhurchú, Annita Currie – to name but a few. It transferred to the internet in 2000. The first Yearbook was published in print in 2006.
