2017 World Conference on Computers in Education

Researchers, policy makers, developers, teachers and learners are invited to come together at the 2017 World Conference on Computers in Education to share, discuss and network with world leading professionals and technologists.

Keynote speakers will include:

– Prof Valerie Shute, Professor of Education at Florida State University
– Lord David Puttnam, Digital Champion for Ireland
– Francesco Avvisati, Senior Analyst of the OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA)
– Davide Storti, Coordinator of UNESCO’s YouthMobile Initiative
– Dr Indrajit Banerjee, Director of UNESCO’s Knowledge Societies Division, which promotes the use of technology to improve access to education.

Professor Shute will focus on the use of computer games to support the learning and assessment of 21st century competencies. She will demonstrate her own gaming platform called Physics Playground, which has delivered measurable improvements in children’s understanding and application of physics principles and problem-solving skills during laboratory testing.

Doctoral Consortium

The doctoral consortium on July 2 will operate as a pre-conference session for research students to practice their presentation and get feedback from active researchers. It will be of particular interest to PhD students aiming to further develop their paper writing and presentation skills.

The consortium will run from 9am-5pm and twelve papers will be presented. The event will be chaired by
Prof. Christine Bescherer, University of Ludwigsburg, Germany;
Prof. Dr Jaana Holvikivi, Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Finland;
Prof. Dr Javier Osorio, Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain;
Prof. Dr Andreas Schwill, University of Potsdam, Germany.

Time will be allocated for analysis and discussion of papers presented throughout the day.
